Communication Upgrade Increases Speed and Reliability by Tim CarrierThe messenger system by Pony Express is clever and pretty efficient, giving the current technology limitations of the Frontier. A messenger probe jumps into its destination solar system at 0.01c, and beams its "packet" of messages to the planet without slowing down. Once it's done, it spends only a little energy to get back to 0.01c (if it slowed down at all) and Jump back into the Void to get back to the next planet. Overall energy expense to accelerate/decelerate is very little to none. No waste or docking maneuvers, just straight on, moving quickly to the next planet. The upgrades mainly deal with the efficency of the engine system so that time between refueling has increased 20% and the data transmitters can transmit up to 15% more data without any loss. The new messenger probes will be placed in service to replace the older ones that are due for schedualed downtime. |
