Orbital Bombardment Platforms ============================= Battleship, Heavy Cruiser, Light Cruser: Cannons or Torpedos Destroyer: Torpedos Assualt Transport: Torpedos Minelayer: Mines Ground Support Platforms ======================== Assualt Scout: Assualt Rockets, Laser Battery Fighter: Assualt Rockets Weapon Effectiveness in an Atmosphere ===================================== Cannons: Highly accurate with a small damage area (this does not include the effects of secondary explosions from damaged equipment), laser and disruptor cannons have enough power to fire from orbit. Torpedos: Inaccurate with a very large damage area, torpedos are designed for ground assualt in addition to inflicting heavy damage among large starships. Mines: Nuclear mines are not designed for atmospheric re-entry, however, they can be detonated succesfully at a high altitude which can distrupt electronics, communications and delicate ground equipment. In a thin atmosphere, a lower detonation can damage and destroy equipment on the ground within an extremely large area. Using mines in a planetary situation is normally done with great care and as a last resort. Laser Battery: These highly accurate weapons do not have the power to be effective from the outside of an atmosphere, but when attached to a platform that can enter the battlefield, they can be very effective anti-armor weapons. Assualt Rockets: Accurate and with a large damage area, assualt rockets are not designed to enter the atmosphere. However, when used in a ground support role, they can do considerable damage to a battlefield area.
